Son of the late Bernard and Grace (MacDougall) MacLellan, Rupert is lovingly remembered by his brother Urban (Vera) MacLellan of Burlington, ON; sister-in-law Betty MacLellan of Stoney Creek, ON; brother-in-law Dan Brooks of Freedom, New Hampshire; and his seventeen nieces and nephews and their families. He was predeceased by brothers, Emmett, Justin, Harold; sister Agatha Brooks; sister-in-law Kathleen MacLellan; niece Julie; nephew Chris; and grand-nephew Philip. Following his graduation from St. Dunstan’s University (1950), Charlottetown and St. Augustine Seminary, Toronto, Rupert was ordained on April 3, 1954 and celebrated his first Mass at his beloved home parish of St. Mary’s in Indian River, Prince Edward Island. Knowing that he could always return to the peaceful rural setting where he grew up, Fr. Rupert willingly accepted the call to serve in the then fledgling province of Alberta. He served many parishes in the Calgary Diocese, including St. Joseph’s (Coalhurst), St. Peter’s (Milk River), St. Mary’s (Banff), St. Anne’s, Holy Name and Holy Spirit, Calgary.
