William "Willie" Henry Roach
It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of our dear father William “Willie” Henry Roach of Sydney, on Friday Aug 10, 2018, at the age of 83. Dad died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Sydney, on Sept 13, 1934 and was the son of the late Annie (Morris) and Isaac Roach.
Dad was Employed with Sydney Steel Corp. until his retirement of 39 years. He was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church. Dad was an avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan and loved his Blue Jays. Some of dads favourite hobbies included making many woodworking projects for his family. Other activities he enjoyed were bowling, golfing, playing darts, and shooting pool with his brothers-in-law. His passion was growing tomatoes and making chow.
Dad enjoyed his summer vacations at their bungalow on the Mira. His favourite vacations were his numerous trips to Prince Edward Island, with the love of his life of 56 years, the late Shirley Roach. He will be especially missed by his best pal “Patches” who brought him great joy.
Left to mourn are his children, Billy (Rose), Marilyn (Garfield) Strickland, Leslie (Valerie), Glen (Joyce), daughter-in-law Maggie, and sister-in-law Donalda Watt.also survived by his grandchildren, Derek, Karen, Melissa, Rachel, Chris, Megan, Crystal, Kyla, Amanda, Victoria, Brittany, as well as his 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley (Mombourquette); son, Danny; brother, Joe (Kate), sisters, Marie (Jack), Maude (Jack); daughter-in-law, Cathy.
Visitation for dad will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. Funeral service will be held the following day, Weds Aug 15, at 10 a.m., in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Interment will follow at Hardwood Hill Cemetery.
