Dr. Beverley Trask

Date de décès : 9 septembre 2018

With heavy hearts and profound sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our father, Dr. Beverley Campbell 'B.C.' Trask on Sunday, September 9, 2018, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney, surrounded by family, friends and his much loved K-9's, which were many over the years. Born in Yarmouth, NS on November 6, 1928, Dad was the son of the late Alfred and Margaret (Bain) Trask.
Following his early education, Dad attended and graduated from Acadia University. He then completed medical school at Dalhousie University, receiving his Doctorate of Medicine and went on to obtain his Internal Medicine Specialty and focus on Cardiology, for which he was awarded his fellowship with the Royal Canadian College of Physicians and Surgeons. Moving to Sydney in 1961, he practiced internal medicine for over 40 years at both, St. Rita and City of Sydney Hospitals, followed by the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and the Veteran’s Affairs Government of Canada local Sydney office. A kind, compassionate and gentle person, his reputation as a well-respected, modest, hard-working physician will live on in the hearts of many. Instrumental in forming the first Cardiac Care Unit in Sydney at City of Sydney Hospital, his work in this area was of key interest and he became known as the “Heart Guy”. Dad was involved in the development and creation of the Renal Dialysis Unit, along with the Intensive Care Unit. He was an original founder of Sydney and District Heartbeats and dedicated many years of volunteer service to this program. A 50 year active member of Rotary Club of Sydney, Dad exemplified the ideals of Rotary, ‘Service above Self’ and was the recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship Award. When not being “the Doctor”, Dad most enjoyed spending time at the cottage in Ben Eoin, surrounded by family and friends and his beloved K-9’s, which were many over the years.
Dr. Trask is survived by beloved son, Peter (Sandra), Sydney; cherished daughter, Carolyn (Sandy) Archibald, Halifax, and loving grandchildren, Justine, Hilary and Courtney Trask and Jeff, Ben, Nick and Katie Archibald. Also surviving are his sisters-in-law, Gwen Trask, Yarmouth, Rachel Sheehy and Edna Porter, both of Falmouth, along with many nieces and nephews, who fondly remember him as Uncle Bev.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his ever-loving wife, Maxine (Porter) Trask in 2012; brother, Stuart Trask; brothers-in-law, Ed Porter, Stan Porter, Don
Porter, Everett Porter, Ron Sheehy and Bud Dodge; sisters-in-law, Olive Dodge, Dorothy Porter, Olive Porter and Shirley Porter.
The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to all Dad’s caregivers, especially Michelle, Marion and Shelly, as well as Dr. Archibald for their care.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Friday, September 14 from 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel on Saturday, September 15 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Thomas Whent officiating. Interment will be held at a later date.
In honour and recognition of a very important cause to Dr. Trask, memorials can be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation or the local SPCA.
Words of comfort can be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or e-mail sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca.
