Lieu de décès : Windsor, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Date de décès : 13 septembre 2018

RAFUSE (Countway), Carol Grace 84, Windsor, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2018, with her family by her side, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s. She was born April 11, 1934, in Chester Basin, the daughter of the late Murray and Blanche Countway. Carol married her husband, Carman, on August 20, 1953; a marriage that exemplified love and devotion for over 65 years. Carol worked at a young age as a teacher and later, after raising her family, returned to work as a Personal Care Worker at Dykeland Lodge; however, she will be most remembered as a dedicated wife, loving mother and grandmother, and loyal sister. Throughout her life Carol enjoyed spending time in her garden and at the lake, but also with her family and friends at their family cottage in Martin’s River, NS, fondly named “the Six Seas”. She had a great love and admiration for nature, in particular her birds and the “friendly” creatures who visited her garden. In their retirement and later years Carol and Carman enjoyed travel and visiting, their favourite trip was in 1993 when they drove across Canada together. Carol’s faith was devout and as a long-time member of the Upper Vaughan’s United Baptist Church she served as a Sunday-School teacher, a member of the Women’s Missionary as well as holding other various roles within the church. Carol, like her name, was full of grace and love. She cared for all, and cherished her family and friends with all her being. Carol is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 65 years, Carman Floyd Rafuse; her children, Carla (David Graham) Rafuse, Cheryl (Gregg) Kennedy, Carey (Karen) Rafuse, and Claudia (Terence) Hynes; her grandchildren, Jill (Joe) Boyd, Missy (Stef Janichen) Kennedy, Jessica (Tyler Gore) Kennedy, Kate (Corey Eastman) Harvey, Emily (Martin) Gallant, and Nick Rafuse; and her great-grandchildren, Sofia Grace, Luka Ryan, and Annie Caroline.
Carol is also survived by her siblings, Kitty Hunter, Claudette Heisler and James Countway; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Carol was predeceased by mother-in-law, Lucy “Dolly” Rafuse; as well as siblings, Dorothy (Arthur) Eddy, Floyd (Gwen) Countway, Mabel (Gerry) Siefert, Marion (Jim) Rafuse; twin brother, Karl (in infancy); and brothers-in-law, Ron Hunter and Reuban Heilser.
The family would like to give special thanks and express how grateful they are to the staff at the Windsor Elms Village, particularly the staff of Meadowview 4, for their exceptional and compassionate care over the last seven years. Arrangements were entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). There was no formal memorial service by request, however, the family invited friends to an informal drop-in open house celebrating Carol’s life in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Centre on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 from 2 – 4 p.m. Many dropped by to visit with the family and pay their respects. Private family interment will take place at Upper Vaughan Baptist Church Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Carol may be made to the Windsor Elms Village, 174 Falmouth Dyke Rd., Falmouth, NS B0P 1L0 (902-798-2251).
