It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Cecil Irving Collins, age 88, of North Sydney, who passed away on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in North Sydney, he was the son of the late John and Lillian (Miles) Collins.
Cecil worked with the Public Works Department for the Town of North Sydney for 43 years, retiring in 1995.
Cecil loved to go to Tim Hortons every day to have his coffee and meet up with his friends for a good chat and also enjoyed heading to the race track for the horse races. He was a true Montreal Canadiens fan and loved to give his friends a hard time if their team lost.
Cecil is survived by his step daughter, Joanne (Brian) Pendergast; step sons, Kenny (Darlene) Mountney, Lloyd (Georgette) Mountney; by his five grandchildren, Laura Lee, Susan, Sean, Bliss, Melissa; ten great-grandchildren, and his last surviving sibling, his sister, Shirley Spears.
He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret (Barry) Collins in 2003; his brother, Gordon, and sisters, Martha, Daisy, Violet, Elsie and Joan.
The family would like to thank the staff of Celtic Court for the wonderful care that Cecil received since becoming a resident in 2016.
Visitation for Cecil will be 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Julio Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation.
