John Paquet

Lieu de naissance : Bras d'Or
Date de naissance : 22 février 1932

Date de décès : 26 septembre 2018

It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of our Dad, John (Jack) Paquet, age 86, on Wednesday, September 26, 2018.
Born in Bras d’Or on February 22, 1932, Dad was the son of the late William and Matilda (LaFrance) Paquet. A faithful member of St. Pius X Church, now Holy Family, Dad was also a proud 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
A very hard-working man, Dad always did his best to provide for our Mom and his 13 children. As a young man, Dad was in the Navy, he worked in the mine, and was a carpenter with Layton’s Lumber until he started his own business “Jack & Joe Builders” with his friend and neighbour Joe Reid. Dad later ran Station Dairy in Sydney Mines, better known as “Jackie Pockets Store.” He will always be remembered for his “Hiking Day Specials.”
Dad was happily married to Maude (Stephenson) for 49 years, until she sadly passed away in March of 2000. Another death shook our family with the passing of our brother, Wayne in 2008, at the age of 45.
Dad is survived by his 12 children, Paula (Blaine), Debbie (Billy), Ann (Brian), Elaine (Stewart), Linda (Danny), Johnnie (Debbie), Sandy (Sharonann), Nancy (Dave), Jan (Ernie), Jean (Raymond), Kenneth (Heather), Nicole (Danny), and his daughter-in-law, Lois Paquet.
Dad also leaves behind to mourn 24 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Also missing Dad is Clara MacPherson, who was a close friend and companion. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, John Sakalauskas, in Ontario.
He was also predeceased by his father-in-law, Dave Stephenson; mother-in-law, Sylvia Stephenson; sister-in-law, Jean Sakalauskas, and brothers-in-law, David and Clarence Stephenson.
Special thanks to the staff of Harbour View Hospital Veterans Ward for the care and kindness shown to Dad and our family.
Visitation for Jack Paquet will take place Sunday, September 30, 2018, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.
The funeral Mass will be held Monday, at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. James Oliver officiating. The burial will be in the parish cemetery. Words of comfort may be forwarded to his family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com.
Dad was a kind, loving man who was proud of his family, and we of him. We will miss him dearly but have comfort in knowing he is reunited with Mom, Wayne, Nanny and Papa. Rest in Peace Our Loving Father!
