Our hearts are aching today with the loss of our mother, Lucy Mary MacKenzie, age 100, who passed away Friday, September 28, 2018, at home surrounded by her family.
Born on April 15, 1918 in MacAdams Lake, she was the daughter of the late Catherine (MacIntyre) and Dougall Currie.
Lucy resided in Benacadie West for many years with her late husband, Dan MacKenzie, before moving to Pipers Cove.
Lucy will be sadly missed by her family; her four sons, John (Jessie), Little Narrows, Danny, Benacadie West, Joe (Betty), Rear Christmas Island, Gerard (Lynne), Benacadie West; her two daughters, Theresa (Angus) MacRae, Port Hawkesbury and Anne MacKenzie, Halifax. Lucy adored her wonderful grandchildren that will miss her dearly, Amanda, Lucina, Jessica, Katrina, Jody, Matthew, Jason, Kyle, Stephen, Gerard, Ryan, Simon and great-grandchildren, Andrew, Jenna, Jamison, Malcolm and Patrick.
Lucy also leaves behind her sons-in-law, Albert MacKinnon and John “Buddy” MacLean and many nieces and nephews that adored her.
She was predeceased by her husband, Dan MacKenzie; daughters, Catherine, Cassie; her son, Dougall; sisters, Katie Ann, Mary Ann, Jane, Christie; brothers, Donald and Johnnie.
Visitation for Lucy will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Christmas Island Fire Hall.
A Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, at St. Columba Church, Iona with Rev. Vargheese Puthuparambil presiding. Burial will follow at St. Barra Cemetery, Christmas Island.
Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Canadian Diabetes Association or any charity.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, North Sydney.
