Bradford Brenton ‘Brent’ Fox III - 65, of Kentville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, 6 October 2018, in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Bradford Brenton Fox II and Donelda (Mitchell) Fox. He was a graduate of West Pictou District High School and attended Acadia University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and a Master of Arts degree (1979) in history, specializing in modern military studies. Joining the militia in 1968, he received his commission in 1970 and served with the First Battalion Nova Scotia Highlanders and the West Nova Scotia Regiment. After graduation from university, he worked at the Old Kings Courthouse Museum in Kentville, where he researched and wrote a history of Camp Aldershot entitled, Camp Aldershot: Serving Since 1904, and later, another book, The Wellington Dyke: A History of the Canard River Dyke System. He then went on to begin a career in journalism, starting out at The Kentville Advertiser and continuing with the newspaper for 23 years, eventually being promoted to Associate Editor. Later on in his career, he also became editor of The Hants Journal in Windsor. He was deeply devoted to his work and had a lifelong passion for history, politics, and writing. An accomplished author, he wrote two more published books, The Captain Calls: 300 Years of Nova Scotia Military History and Forged in Iron and Steel: The History of Maritime Steel and Foundries Limited 1902-2002. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Kings Branch #006 in Kentville, and for several years was extensively involved in the “Call to Remembrance” competitions, writing questions and acting as judge. He is survived by his wife, the former Geraldine ‘Geri’ Milbury; a son, Bradford Brenton Fox IV, St. John’s; a daughter, Margaret ‘Elizabeth’ Fox, Toronto; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Joyce Foley, Kentville; two brothers, Robert Fox (Linda), Truro; Frederick Fox (Jacqueline), New Glasgow; three sisters, Margaret Elizabeth ‘Betsy’ (Ian) Fraser, Trenton; Donelda ‘Elayne’ (Bayan) Oweida, Halifax; Dorothy Fox (Radoslav Markovic), Toronto; four nieces, Courtney, Yasmein, Laura, and Meghan; and, a nephew, Tarreik. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, John Fox. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation, by request. A combined Royal Canadian Legion and funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, 11 October 2018, in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Gary Manthorne officiating. A private family burial will take place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. Donations in memory may be made to the QEII Foundation - Cardiac Surgery or the Kings County SPCA.
