Frances "Fannie" Prince

Frances "Fannie" Prince

We regret to announce the passing of Frances Prince, age 97, on Sunday, October 14, 2018, at the Northside Community Guest Home.
Edna Frances (Fannie) Prince was born in North Sydney on February 7, 1921. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Ellen (Walsh) McKinnon. Fannie was a woman of indomitable spirit and tenacity. She worked at the Texaco Restaurant, becoming an unrivalled baker and cook. She was a deeply pious woman whose unwavering faith gave her strength throughout life’s struggles. “Gram” was a mother and grandmother in her heart to many in her extended family. She always looked forward to her visits, phone chats with those “out west”, their outings to the casino, and family lunches. In her retirement, Gram enjoyed reading novels, watching her daytime soaps and the evening news with Louie. We also cherish many memories of our summer trips to the bungalow where Gram enjoyed a swim, making her famous slush, and relaxing in the tranquility and beauty she found there. Gram is survived by her husband Louie; granddaughter, Sharon; great-granddaughter, Kayla, and her many beloved nieces, nephews and extended family. Throughout her life Gram endured the loss of her daughter Anita; son-in-law Joe; grandson Billy Collier, her parents, all of her 17 siblings, and many nieces and nephews. Our family would like to thank Dr. Andrew Wawer and staff, Dr. Ritter and the Palliative Care Team for all the care and compassion provided to Frances. We also send special thanks to all the staff at the Northside Community Guest Home. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, October 18, at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. James Oliver officiating. A reception will be held in the parish hall, following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Fannie’s memory may be made to the Recreation Department at the Northside Community Guest Home, or
Palliative Care Cape Breton. Words of comfort may be forwarded to her family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com.
