Martha Ann Ramey

Martha Ann Ramey

Date de décès : 12 octobre 2018

It is with a mixture of sadness and relief that I wish to inform you of the passing of my mother on Friday, October 12, 2018.
She lived a full life and had turned 90 on June 20. My father, Victor, passed away in 2002 and mom always said she was ready to join him whenever the Lord called her.
She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church and CWL, Sydney River.
Mom was born in Big Pond, to the late Catherine and Peter S. MacNeil. She grew up speaking Gaelic, which she continued to converse in with anyone who shared this ability or wished to learn. She spent a few summers in Iona with her sister, Theresa and niece, Marion sharing memories of the past and promoting Gaelic Culture. This interest led her to meet Shamus and his young family who she was so proud of knowing. She enjoyed learning and always had a book or two on the go. Martha passionately rooted for the Montreal Canadians, even at their worst. She enjoyed her daily calls from her good friend, Nancy. Martha could bake anything and made some wild creations. She was a fabulous knitter and just finished a sweater and mitts for me. One of her happiest times was as a volunteer at the Palliative Care Unit. She often spoke of the wonderful people she worked with, most notably Pat and Lisa. I have only scratched the surface of who my mother was, but she was truly loved by many.
She is survived by myself, her daughter, Sandra (Donald) Kimball, Caledonia, NS; brother, Agustus (Joyce) MacNeil, Kitchener, Ont.; special nieces, Kathy (Blair) Delaney, Lucina Thibodeau, Margaret (Dave) Smith, all who did so much for her. As well as other nieces and nephews, and good friends, Winston and Allan.
She was predeceased by siblings, John, Annie Mae Egan, Agnes Farrell, Veronica Landry and Theresa Burke.
Funeral service will be on Friday, October 19, 2018 in Sydney Memorial Chapel at 2 p.m., with Rev. Dennis Lamey officiating. Private family interment will take place in Big Pond Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the CBRH Palliative Care Unit or the SPCA.
Special thanks to the caring staff of the Emergency Department and Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Words of comfort may be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.com or emailed to sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca.
