It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Eileen Cusack, age 91, on Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with her beloved family at her side. Joan E. Fisher was born in Staines, England.
She was predeceased by her mother, Rose Young; her father, Percy Fisher; her beloved husband, John Cusack and her daughter, Carol (Garfield) Anthony.
Joan is survived by her five sons, Johnny (Marie), Barry (Sylvia), Tiger (Linda), Butch (Lynn) and Jimmy (Shellina) and her five daughters, Colleen (Art) Jones, Linda (Gordie) Covin, Rosemary (Brendon) MacIntyre, Pearl (Gary) Latour and Kathleen (Jean) Frenette. She will be greatly missed by her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchild and her special angel, Larry MacLeod.
For many years, Joan was actively involved with her war bride family. She looked forward to her Tuesday luncheons and her Christmas gatherings. Joan loved traveling, dancing, playing piano, listening to her music and mostly celebrating with family. She was a true prankster at heart and enjoyed making and dressing up in costumes. At the age of 91, she spent many hours on social media interacting with family and friends with her cat, Bella at her side.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation to celebrate Joan’s life will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Sunday, October 21 from 2-4 p.m. Interment will take place at a later date.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and palliative care staff of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
