Captain Neil MacDonald, 82, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 16, 2018, at Alderwood Rest Home, Baddeck.
He was born on November 4, 1935 in Sydney Mines to parents, Donald and Tain (MacLeod) MacDonald, Plaster on the North Shore.
Neil retired from Misner Transportation in 1988 after spending 29 years as a Sea Captain on The Canadian Great Lakes. He enjoyed music, theatre, and especially loved to travel.
He is survived his wife, Evelyn (MacRitchie); son, Donald (Kristen); grandsons, Dylan, Danny, and Jack, Calgary; brothers-in-law, John (Theresa) Buchanan, South Haven, Merrill (Brenda) Buchanan, Baddeck, George MacRitchie, Baddeck Bay; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; his former wife, Kathryn Buchanan; sister, Grace Ann; and brother, Stewart.
As per Neil’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and there will be no visitation or funeral service.
Family, neighbours, and friends are invited to join with Neil’s family at the South Haven Community Hall on Monday, October 22, 2018 from 2 to 4 p.m. for an Open House – enjoy a cup of tea and memories with us.
Family flowers only - If you so wish, memorial donations to Alderwood Rest Home, Victoria County Memorial Hospital Charitable Foundation, or a charity of your choice, would be appreciated.
