Passed peacefully away on November 9th, 2018 in the presence of her family at the Bell Island Hospital. Born February 8th, 1963. Predeceased by her father Patrick O’Brien, loving step-father Frank Dalton, niece Holly O’Brien and father-in-law Bob Hibbs. Leaving to mourn her mother Dorothy Dalton, her husband of 23 years Donald, and her children: Emily (Andrew) Ricketts, Stephanie (Matthew) and Cameron, precious granddaughter and light of her life Charlotte Marie. Also leaving to mourn her brothers Shawn (Coco), Donnie, and her sisters Deborah O’Brien and Pamela (Kevin) Corcoran, nephews and nieces: Nicholas (Sarah) O’Brien, Aaron (Gail) O’Brien, Kyle Corcoran and Eilis O’Brien, mother-in-law Loretta Hibbs, brother and sisters-in-law Robert (Kay) Hibbs, Jeanette (Alvin) Slade, Elizabeth (Carl) Kavanagh, Bill (Sherrie) Hibbs, Wally (Shirley) Hibbs, Lorraine (Sean) Murphy, nieces and nephews: Jennifer (Shawn) Gorman, Carl Jr. (Coreen) Kavanagh, Kassandra Hibbs, Shannon Murphy, Christopher Hibbs, Chad (Katie-Jane) Hibbs, Sean Murphy Jr. and Tyler Hibbs, great-nieces: Lexie Gorman, Brooklyn and Katy Kavanagh, as well as a large circle of family and friends. Special thanks to her best friend, Karen Sweeney (Terry), Gerald Curnew (San), Gary and Geraldine Hibbs, Georgina Hutchings and Goddaughter Selena Mugford. Special appreciation to Sheryl Somerton, Dr. Laurie and all the staff at the Bell Island Hospital. Melinda was well known for her Registered Nursing Career, which she finished on Bell Island and her love of making her Hibble Bears. Resting at Pendergast’s Funeral Home on Bell Island, Monday, November 12th, from 12-9 pm, Tuesday, November 13th at Caul’s Funeral Home, 84 LeMarchant Road, St. John’s from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral services to take place on Wednesday, November 14th at 11 am, Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 260 Waterford Bridge Road, St. John’s. Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Hard of Hearing Association in Melinda’s memory.
