Hilda Sykes

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of their loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Hilda Sykes on December 3, 2018 at Seaview Manor, Glace Bay, surrounded by her family. Born in New Waterford on November 9, 1920 she was the daughter of the late Robert and Harrena (Stubbard) Gadd.
In her earlier years Hilda had worked in sales at Schwartz Ladies Wear, she used to belong to the Line Dancing Group, she was a homemaker who loved baking, cooking and crocheting but most of all, her family and grandchildren meant everything to her.
Hilda is survived by her daughters, Harrena (Rena) Campbell, New Waterford and Linda Gillis, BC; sister, Gweneth Gadd (Bredo), BC; brother, Arthur Gadd, ON; grandchildren, Linda (Donnie) McLellan, Wendy (Ian) McKinnon, Alwyn (Terri) Campbell, all of Cape Breton, Harrena (Stephen) Gillis and John Angus (Suratsawadee) Gillis, both of BC; great-grandchildren, Stephen (Brenna) Campbell, Brett McKinnon, Rachel McKinnon, Noah Campbell, Sam Campbell, Anerrah Gillis, Maxwell Gillis and Linda Gillis.
Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her husband, Herbert (Bert); sisters, Harrena Calabrese, Evelyn Keough and Mildred Gadd; brothers, Porter and Melvin Gadd; sons-in-law, Gerald Campbell and John Gillis.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 6 at 2 p.m. in Calvin United Church, Hudson St., New Waterford with Rev. Duncan Roach officiating. Interment in Union Grove Cemetery followed by a luncheon in the Rev. Roach Fellowship Room.
