David Gerard Simmons

Lieu de naissance : Glace Bay, Nouvelle Ecosse
Date de naissance : 3 janvier 1954

Date de décès : 3 décembre 2018

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of our dad, grandfather, brother and friend, David Gerard Simmons, age 64, on December 3, 2018.
Born Jan. 3, 1954 in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Roy and Ruth (Keliher) Simmons.
Dad started his working career at Maritime Safety Equipment and Eastern Fire Extinguishers with Fabian Traboulsee, a man who was deeply loved and admired by our family. In 1987, dad along with his brother, Frank had purchased this business and carried its success through many years. For the last number of years and up until his passing, dad volunteered at the Glace Bay Food Bank. Dad genuinely enjoyed serving his community and spending time with all of the people involved.
His friendships did not stop there. Dad attended regular A.A. meetings which became a positive part of his life. His family will be forever grateful for the love and support that you have given Dad. Dad’s favourite times were spent gathering with family and friends, during summers at the bungalow, camping in Mira, and entertaining at home. These times were spent sharing stories, laughter, love and food. His BBQ feasts and Christmas breakfast were among the best.
Dad was a heartfelt man with a gentle soul who touched all who knew him. He was an exceptional father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. Dad truly was one of a kind.
Dad will be greatly missed by his two sons, David and Darren; his daughter, Melissa (Billie Gracie) and the mother of children and wife of many years, Brenda Simmons; grandchildren, Emily MacDonald, Tommy MacDonald and Brett Snow. He is also survived by his siblings, Linda (Michael) Head and Lori (Barry) Gordon, Frank (Heidi Bishop); brothers and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Doucette (special sister-in-law), Cheryl Campbell, Rhonda (Steve) MacMullin, Jimmy (Beverly) Snook, Sheldon (Helen) Snook; Lisa MacDonald whom he loved like a daughter; special friend, Nancy Rosta; as well as many nieces and nephews. Dad is now reunited with many of his family and friends.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by special father and mother-in-law, Steve “Fa Fa” and Viola (Stoodley) Snook; brothers-in-law, Kevin and Stevie Snook; special brother-in-law, George Doucette; best friend, Wayne Marsh; special family friend, Fabian Traboulsee and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Family flowers only, donations may be made to the Alcoholics Anonymous or the Glace Bay Food Bank. Cremation has taken place.
A visitation will be held Saturday, December 15, 2018 from 10-11 a.m. with a memorial service to follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Melvin Whitten officiating at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay NS (902-849-4199)
“And just at the moment when someone says, “He’s gone” there are others who are watching him coming and other voices take up a glad shout “Here he comes, he has arrived.” Henry Van Dyke
