GIDNEY, Avis Merriam ~ age 97 of Little River, Digby County, NS passed away peacefully on Friday, December 14, 2018 in Tideview Terrace, Digby, NS. Born in Little River, she was the second daughter of the late Shirley Douglas and Helena May (Trask) Tidd. Avis was a lifetime member of the Womens Missionary Society, Little River. She was a member of the Little River United Baptist Church, where she served as past Sunday School Teacher, Organist and Choir Director for well over 50 years and had a great passion for music. Avis gave free music lessons to children and enjoyed visiting with her many friends in the community. One of her favourite past times was playing crib in the evenings with her cousin Mabel Graham. She was employed with LB Collins Limited for over 40 years. Avis is the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by her daughters, Kathryn (John) Thurber, Freeport, NS; Carolyn Milbury, Digby, NS; son, Reid (Trish) Gidney, Prince Rupert, BC; step-son Tony Sharpe, Almonte, Ont; grandchildren Jana Thurber, Nanaimo, BC; Karla (Brian) Fodchuk, Two Hills, Alta; Lindsay “Douglas” Thurber, Victoria, BC; Tammy Van Tassel (Jerry), Digby, NS; Raymond (Jenna) Milbury, Little River, NS; Gregory (Cori) Gidney, Prince George BC; Bailey Gidney, Prince George, BC; Liam Gidney, Regina, Sask, Emma Gidney, London, UK, Thomas Gladue (Neissa), Prince George, BC, Jonah Emerson, Prince Rupert, BC, Maggie Emerson, Prince George, BC; great grandchildren Erica (Corey), Alecia, Terrah (Dylan), Kayla (Steve), Andrew, Aaron, Parker, Landon; great great grandchildren Hunter, Kade, Kovu, Kody, Nalah, Carter, Nina, Ethan, and Sako; sisters-in-law Ella Tidd, Millie Raymond, Janet Gidney and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband Lindsay Raymond; second husband C. Bailey Gidney; daughter Sharon, in infancy; sister Freda; brothers Rex and Hazen and son-in-law, Robert “Ritchie” Milbury; step daughter Margaret-Anne Sharpe and great granddaughter Ebony Wilson. Special thanks to the staff of Tideview Terrace for the wonderful care of Mom while she was a resident for the past two years. Special thanks to the medical staff at the Digby General Hospital ER for the care Mom received during her most recent visit. To Dr. Black, thank you for the longterm care you have provided to Mom. We are forever grateful to you all. Visitation was held 7-9 PM Monday, December 17, 2018 in the Little River United Baptist Church where the funeral service was also held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 18, 2018. Pastor Noel Facey officiated assisted by Rev. Donald Robertson and Rev. Jeff White. Interment was in Hillcrest Cemetery, Little River, NS. Donations in memory may be made to the Little River United Baptist Church, the Hillcrest Cemetery or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of NS.
