Aloysius (Wishie) O'Neill

Aloysius (Wishie) O'Neill

Wishie (Papa), 86, passed away peacefully Jan. 10, 2019 at McGillivary Guest Home, where he’s been a member of the “Reminiscent Road” family for the past 4 years.
Wishie was the son of the late Patrick and Laura (MacDonald) O’Neill. He was predeceased by his wife, Ethel (Lever) O’Neill; siblings, Peggy, Patrick, Joseph (Emmeline), Anna Sharpe, and many of his “Lever” brothers and sisters-in-law.
Wishie was a gentle, happy man, who was very well respected in the community. He valued hard work, family, and honesty. He and Ethel enjoyed 59 years together, where they made many great memories with their “boys”, family and friends. His working career began at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Glace Bay, the Canso Causeway, and Cameron’s Drycleaners. He retired from DEVCO, as a Stationary Engineer @ #26 Colliery, where he enjoyed every day he went to work. In his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his boys, “tinkering” in his barn and serving at Saint John the Baptist Parish.
Left to cherish his memory are his 3 sons: Len (Phyllis), Ken (Barb), Ed (Maureen), his 7 grandsons and 4 great-grandsons: Jeff, (Kathryn), Miles & Harrison; Ryan, (Nicole), Declan & Brogan; Kyle Aloysius, Sean (Aliesje), Liam, Colin, & Dylan.
He will be remembered fondly by his sisters-in-law: Lorna Lever, Helen Marie (Kelly) Lever, & brothers-in-law: Ray Sharpe, Wendell Gouthro, Fred (Anita) Lever, & Harold Lever. His many nieces and nephews have special memories of time spent with Uncle Wishie.
The family would like to express sincere appreciation to the staff of McGillivary Guest Home, for the professional, amicable and exceptional care provided to Wishie. Many thanks to Dr(s) Gordon Spencer, and John Archibald, who provided professional care over the past number of years. A very special thanks to Diane Munden, Donna Moores, Moira Deveraux, and Sandra Simm, for their care and support to Wishie and our family, prior to his residence at McGillivary Guest Home.
Visitation will be Sunday, Jan 13, 2019, 7-9 p.m. at Curry’s Funeral Home, Main St. Glace Bay. Father Norman MacPhee will celebrate Mass on Mon. Jan 14, 2019, at 10 a.m., Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay, reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to McGillivary Guest Home would be appreciated.
