Joseph Allen MacPhee

Lieu de naissance : Sydney, Nouvelle Ecosse
Date de naissance : 25 janvier 1958

Date de décès : 10 janvier 2019

The family of Joseph Allen MacPhee are sad to report that he passed away suddenly on January 10, 2019 of a massive heart attack. Joe was born on January 25, 1958 in Sydney, N.S. He grew up in East Bay where he gained a lifelong love of the water. A hard worker and a lifelong learner he will be sadly missed by family and friends.
Growing up in East Bay Joe developed a love of the outdoors, swimming, sailing, animals and family. Working on the property with his father Johnny and his brothers he learned how to work hard and carried that with him throughout his life. If Joe was working on something/had a mission you might just want to get out of the way.
Joe started his work life at the Steel Plant where he made many longtime friends. When things took a downturn at the Plant he attended university acquiring a Bachelor of Arts and was on the Dean's list each year. Following this he worked a number of jobs in Cape Breton but ultimately headed to Alberta to make a better life for his family. Based out of Edmonton Joe worked for Precision Drilling and working in various location across Canada and in the U.S. Once more a down turn in the industry sent him in another direction. He found work at Landry's Lumber outside St. Peter's and enjoyed each day there as well as respected and admired the owners and his co-workers.
Joe was fortunate to have three wonderful children which he was very proud of. Joe and Cathy wanted to raise healthy, kind and thoughtful individuals. This project was a great success!!!!
When Joe and Cathy married in 1991 he moved to New Waterford with her, but it was always his dream to live on the water. His dream came true when they purchased an old farm house with 5 acres of land on the Bras D'or Lakes. For the past decade this has been Joe's passion and love. 2018 was his best year yet on the property as he had a tractor, a sail boat and produced his first successful garden. We are sad that we have lost our father, brother, friend, uncle and good neighbour. Knowing he was in a place he loved gives us some comfort.
Volunteering was also an important part of Joe's life. While in New Waterford he was an active member of the Lion's Club and the Kinsmen Club and made many good friends. His latest venture in volunteering was becoming a part of the Johnston Volunteer Fire Department.
Joe is survived by his three children, Zachary MacPhee (Kayla), Chelsea MacPhee and Luke MacPhee. He is also survived by his ex-wife and best friend, Cathy MacPhee; sisters, Joanne Madden, Theresa Woodburn, Cecilia MacPhee, Ronnie MacPhee, Jane Tomasetti, Susan Clarke and Ann Louise Cox; and special nephew, Robbie Cox.
Joe was pre-deceased by his parents, Johnny and Mary MacPhee; brothers, Ian MacPhee, Stephen (Stevie) MacPhee and Sandy MacPhee; an infant sister, Marie Monica.
Cremation has taken place. Celebration of life at 2 p.m. in the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home Chapel, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney on Thursday, January 17, 2019. With reception to follow.
Donations in Joe's memory can be made to the Bras d'Or Lake Biosphere Association (blbra.ca).
Messages and memorials may be directed to the family at www.chantfuneralhome.ca.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of S.W. Chant and Son Funeral Home, Sydney.
