He will be remembered as a hard-working, caring man, who loved joking with all who were fortunate enough to know him. He was a lover of Celtic music, a proud member and 4th Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus, a Eucharistic minister at Our Lady of Fatima Parish, and a blood donor with Canadian Blood Services over 150 times. He was an employee of Municipal Ready Mix for over thirty years, retiring in 2008, as well as a longtime employee of the Department of Highways.
Michael is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Margie/Maggie (Ferguson); his sons, Steve (Angela Barrington), Mike (Dena Edwards), and Rob (Susan MacLean); and his grandchildren with whom he adored spending every minute, Matthew, Ryan, Allison, Ewan, and Carey. Michael is also survived by his sisters, Joan MacKay (John Allan) and Hazel Williams (Ernie); brother, Aubrey (Jeanette); sisters-in-law, Pauline, Mabel, Jean, and Bonnie, and many nieces and nephews, who all loved him very much.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Stephen Michael (in infancy); sisters, Carm, Florence, Doreen, Violet, Marguerite, Theresa, and Sally (in infancy); and brothers, Stanley (in infancy), Tony, Stanley, Reg, Dave, Howard, and Roddie. He was also predeceased by his father-in-law and mother-in-law Daniel and Lena Ferguson.
A special thank you to Roddie, Richard, Phillip, Rohan, Kevin, and the staff of Harbourstone Enhanced Care for the comfort they brought Mike over the past four years. Special thanks to the Palliative Care Team at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, as well as Drs. Mohan Virick, Laith Shimon, and Steven Hall.
