A precious lady, much loved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and mother-in- law passed away on February 4th with family by her side. She died at Beach Grove Home where the earthly angles of staff and volunteers cheerfully provided her with every comfort for the last 14 months. Marjorie was born on April 10, 1933, the second child of the late George R. MacLean and Pearl Ella Tattrie who lived on “the farm” in River John, N.S. Marj received her early schooling in River John but finished high school in New Glasgow in 1950. When she returned to River John she was immediately employed in the local Post Office. She moved to Halifax in 1953 and worked in the office of Maritime Telegraph and Telephone Company. She married in 1954 and she and her growing family lived in Halifax and Dartmouth in 1954-59, Saint John 1959-63 and Charlottetown 1963-81. She chose to be a stay at home mom until her youngest child was 11 years old. Marj was a member of Park Royal United Church and assisted with the CGIT program in the 1970’s. She returned to the labour market in 1975 and worked for the CBC and later for FairIsle Ford Sales in the account’s office. She moved back to Dartmouth in 1981 and became employed with the Halifax County /Bedford School Board as secretary to the heads of the Music and Library departments. She and her husband retired in 1987 to the Annapolis Valley where she enjoyed church activities, golfing, her bridge groups and neighbours. Marj thoroughly enjoyed hosting dinner parties for friends and neighbours. She played clarinet in the New Horizons Band at Acadia University for 7 years and volunteered in the gift shop of Valley Regional Hospital for 12 years. Marj. took great pride in her cooking always providing tasty and healthy meals for the family. She made dresses for her girls and enjoyed knitting mittens, stockings, sweaters and scarves for the family. She did fine needlework for wall hangings and crocheted table clothes and many doilies as well as quilts for her own needs and gifts for family, most now in the hands of family as part of her legacy. The move back to the Island occurred in 2015. With her ready smile and pleasant ways, she made friends easily wherever she lived. She will be sadly missed by Don. her husband of 64 years. Great Grandchildren Peter, George and Eleanor Lenz, William and Leo Germann and Galen MacLean. Sisters, Lillian Matheson, Ladner, BC; Mary Jocelyn, Enfield, NS; Fern Zinck, Pictou; Brother Donald (Margaret) on “the Farm” in River John where the MacLean clan held many happy reunions. Predeceased by Janet Baillie, Troy, NS; Brother-in-law Ronald Zinck and Grand Daughter Hannah Champion. Funeral to be held in The Belvedere Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday at 2:00 pm with Rev. David Campbell and Rev. Kevin MacKenzie officiating with reception to follow. Visitation from 1:00 – 1:50 pm. Family flowers only. Donation in memory of Marjorie may be made to the QEH Hospital, Valley Regional Hospital Kentville or the Park Royal United Church.
