We, the family of Sarah Eliza Bishop, are heartbroken to announce the peaceful passing of our mother, grandmother, sister and aunt on Monday, February 18, 2019, at the An Cala unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Jacques Fontaine, Newfoundland, on November 4, 1931, Sarah was the daughter of the late John and Jessie (Hatch) Johnson. Sara lived on Peppett Street, North Sydney with her daughter Olive, who was her faithful caregiver. Mom’s family was her life. She called her newly adopted son, Tom “sweetheart” and adored him and he her. She loved to bake homemade bread and knit socks and mitts. Many happy hours were spent with her Arthur camping in Lake Ainslie. Her greatest pastime was bingo where she met many new friends. Sarah was faithful and loved her God. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church in North Sydney.
Left to mourn are her children, daughters, Olive (Tom Pelley), Joan (Calvin) Hynes; her sons, Bert (Janice) Bishop and Arthur James (Mary Ann) Bishop; her grandchildren, Shawn (Trina), Jeremy, Afton, Aaron, Amanda, Jordan and Kirk; her great-grandchildren, Aihlin and twins, Lucas and Christopher. Also left to mourn her passing are her sisters, Mary Brushett (the late Richard), Rhoda Hynes (the late Bert); her brothers, Harry (Ann), Fred (Joyce) and sister-in-law, Olive Johnson. She will be greatly missed by special niece, Shirley (Derek) Bonnell; her godson, Scott Bonnell; her good friend, Bernice Hatcher and her furry friend, Bella.
Besides her parents, Sarah was predeceased by her husband, Arthur in 1988; her daughter, Jessie in 2005; her sisters, Gladys (James) Noseworthy, Annabella (Jim) Steward, Annie (Clyde) Thornhill and Suzanne in infancy; her brothers, Abraham (Polly), Thomas and Bert Johnson.
Visitation for Sarah will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church with Rev. Julio Martin and Archdeacon Brenda Drake officiating.
