John Garfield MacKinnon, a resident of Norwood, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at home in the presence of his loving family on Sunday, February 17, 2019. He is survived by his wife Hilda. They had just celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on Valentine’s Day. Garfield was born in Clyde River, PEI. He would have celebrated his 94th birthday on Feb. 26, 2019. He was one of five children of Gordon and Lula Mae (Scott) MacKinnon. In 1954 he emigrated from PEI to the US. After 30 years he retired as a finish carpenter and shop foreman at the Christian Science Church in Boston. Over the years Garfield served as a church deacon and choir member. Most recently he had attended the Heritage Baptist Church and had sung in the choir. He had also sung in the Canoe Cove Presbyterian Church choir. He enjoyed gardening, bowling, woodworking and spending time on PEI and Florida. Garfield is also survived by his four children: Doug, Sandra and her husband Warren, Larry, and David and his wife Debbie; his sister, Doris Williams (Charlottetown), and Phyllis MacDonald (Cornwall); as well as four grandchildren and four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Warren MacKinnon, and the late Thelma Singleton. His funeral was held February 20th, 2019 at the Folsom Funeral Home in Norwood Mass with the Rev.Tom Krampert of the Heritage Baptist Church officiating.
