OTTO VALENTINE GEREIN

Lieu de naissance : Vibank, Saskatchewan, Canada
Date de naissance : 27 août 1925

Lieu de décès : Cache Creek, Colombie Britannique, Canada
Date de décès : 30 mai 2011

Born August 27, 1925, in Vibank, Sask., Dad died peacefully on May 30, 2011 in Cache Creek, B.C.

One of 13 children (nine boys, four girls), Dad often reminded us of what it was like growing up in the dirty '30s; when getting an orange for Christmas was a special treat; having to use a frozen horse turd and a willow branch to play hockey; and hitching up the wagon to go 3 miles to the neighbors and listen to Hockey Night in Canada.

Dad left the family farm in the '40s and moved to B.C. where he eventually met Kathleen O'Sullivan in Princeton and they were married June 9, 1951.

An accomplished athlete, he was much sought after by company ball teams for his pitching prowess.
He was known as "The Little Man With The Big Ball".

A self taught mechanic, there was nothing he couldn't fix and was still working on vehicles up to his passing. He was still very active and always looking for something to do.

Normally on the quiet side, Dad could get vocal when it came to politics and liked nothing better than a good argument.

Dad's other passions included playing the accordion, a fine cigar, a fast polka and lucky jackpots at the casino.
He took great pride in his children's and grandchildren's accomplishments and was always there with words of encouragement.

Predeceased by Kath, his soul mate of 53 years, son Tim, son-in-law Mike and ten brothers and sisters.

He is survived by son Tom (Zel) and daughters Teri (Tim) and Tami (Mike); grandchildren Kendell (Brian), Carly, Oliver, Blake (Christie), Shalan, Kyndra and Kiana; great grandchildren Peyton Kathleen and Michael Otto; brother Andy and sister Marie (Don); daughter-in-law Joanne; numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws; and special friends Pat, Keith and Ron.

Graveside service Monday, June 6, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Ashcroft Cemetery. Viewing from 10:00 a.m to 12:00 noon at Thompson Valley Funeral Home, Ashcroft.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to B.C. Children's Hospital in Dad's name would be greatly appreciated.
