Jacques (Jake) Martin

MARTIN, JACQUES (JAKE) JOSEPH - Jake left this world just as he lived everyday - making sure his family knew he loved them. His love for us embraces us in this time of great sorrow. His strength and determination to live with cancer with a positive attitude, one day at a time will guide us one day at a time as we live without his laughter and love. Jake leaves 42 years of loving memories to his devoted wife and best friend Debbie (Purdy). Their love for each other was a gift few are privileged to experience and all hope to have. Debbie's words of Jake being "one in a million" would be the same for him to her. Their love was like and will continue to be like no other. Their life was complete with one son and one daughter. His children were his pride and joy. To them he was larger then life - making anything possible with his love for them. His son, Randy, represents Jake's strength of character, his sense of humor and his helpful nature. His daughter, Jackie, represents her father's fondness for a good conversation, his giving nature and a focus on family. The years soon brought Jake a son-in-law who made him so proud, for Andrew (Reed) loved Jake's daughter and family the way a father hopes for his child. Then came a love that was so special and filled Jake's life with joy - his grandson, Cody. To witness these two together was a moment to cherish. Cody will grow up knowing that Grandpa's love will guide him - only now from Heaven above. A man of fine character and great faith begins with two loving parents. Jake was born in Baie Ste Anne to Armand and Theresa. Jake also leaves to mourn his brothers and sisters, Robert (Jacqueline), Jacqueline (Donat), Roland (Rose-Alma), Gilbert (Sharon), Marjolaine (Marc), Guy (Elva). Jake found great comfort and strength in the loving visits his mother and family gave him. To begin to mention Jake's friends would be an endless task, for Jake made a new friend each day. He had a personality that welcomed a conversation with anyone, gave to others only with the hope of making others happy and a gift of telling stories and jokes that left everyone laughing. Jake leaves so many cherished memories of love and laughter for those who were lucky enough to know him. It will be those memories that will comfort us in the journey ahead. Jake would want stories to be shared instead of tears. Please honor his love for laughter by sharing with one another a joke he told, a memory of a time together, or simply an act of kindness Jake was known for. Even in the face of cancer, Jake was determined to live with hope and give this hope to those around him. He often reminded others, "there is always someone worse off than yourself." Should you wish to make a donation, Jake would be proud for you to provide "hope" to those living with cancer by donating to D.E.C.H Oncology Unit. The support the floor of 3W Oncology team gave Jake, allowed him to face cancer with hope instead of fear. Above all, embrace those you love for you never know when their memory is all that is left for you to cherish.
No visitation by Jake's request. Jake's service will be held at Holy Family Parish, 1500 Hanwell Rd, Saturday, June 18th at 11:00am. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Bishop's Funeral Home. Online condolences and the sharing of memories can be expressed through www.bishopsfuneralhome.com.
