GAUTHIER, AUDREY - The passing of Audrey Gauthier of Plaster Rock, NB occurred on June 16, 2011 at the Edmundston Regional Hospital at the age of 73. Audrey was born in Everett, New Brunswick. She was the youngest daughter of Annie Ruth and Sylvanus Knowlton Porter on July 31st, 1937. She moved to Plaster Rock with the family at an early age attending school there. At the age of 17 she moved to Kemptville, Ontario starting her career as a waitress. While in Kemptville she met and married Louis Gauthier in 1959 moving to Ottawa in the sixties where she worked for many years in some of Ottawa's finest restaurants. They had three children Nicole Hicks who died in 2008, Clarice who died as a child in 1963 and Claude Gauthier who resides in Calgary, Alberta. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Audrey, too sick in late 1992 with lupus, ended her restaurant career. Being a fighter she recovered from this illness. She fell and broke her hip on April 28th and fought a brave battle til the end never complaining of the hand she had been dealt. She died on June 16th of complications of infections following surgery. In the summer of 1998 she moved back to Plaster Rock to be near her family and childhood friends. Audrey was very talented in crafts, needle point, and painting. She was an avid bingo player all of her life. She was one of nine children Vivian Tapley, Mary Ritchie, Edna Tyczkowski, Maxwell Porter, Lee Porter, Michael Porter who are all deceased. Surviving are Marjorie Ward of Plaster Rock and Sylvia Vandine of Spencerville, Ontario.
On July 31st what would have been Audrey's 74th birthday, she will be laid to rest with her parents at Burntland Brook Cemetery. A celebration of her life will take place at 1:30 pm at the graveside followed by a reception at Burntland Brook Women's Institute Hall. All are wecome!
