Scott, Burt Holt – 89, Amherst, formally of Springhill, passed away at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Center on Sunday, September 27th, 2009 after a brief illness. Burt was born in Holywell, Northumberland, England on May 11th, 1920 and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Burt came to Canada as a young boy and resided in Springhill with his family. He was educated in the Springhill school system and served 3 years with the Canadian Army in Europe before an honorable discharge in 1945. Burt drove trucks in the lumber industry and worked for the Cumberland Coal Co. in Springhill until 1955. He began his career with Corrections Canada in 1955 retiring in 1984 from Warkworth, Ont. Burt returned to Amherst in 1986 and in his retirement enjoyed golf, bowling and lunches at the Rollways. Burt was a member of Sussex Masonic Lodge Order #4, Dorchester and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 10, Amherst. Burt is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Veronica (Bell), their children; Jane (Greg) Loo, Honolulu, Hi, Arlene (Fred) Lodge, Winnipeg, Manitoba and Vaughn (Cindy), Calgary, Alberta, grandchildren; Michelle (Jon) Matsumoto, Julie Loo, Gavin (Taryn) Loo, Lauren Tanioka (Jimmy Fonseca) all of Honolulu, Ashley (Brad) Lodge and Lynsey Lodge of Winnipeg, Manitoba, great grandsons; Noah Tanioka – Abelardo and Parker Matsumoto, Honolulu. He was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Jane Scott and brothers, George and Peter. In keeping with his wishes there will be no visitation prior to the memorial service to be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, October 1st, 2009 in the chapel of Fair Haven Funeral Home, 1177 Salisbury Road, Moncton, NB. Family flowers only. A reception for Burt’s family and friends will follow the service in the Garden View Reception Room of the funeral home. Interment in Fair Haven Memorial Gardens, Moncton.
