KJOLBERG - Richard Gordon (April 19, 1950 - August 5, 2011). Richard Gordon Kjolberg, age 61, passed away suddenly on August 5, 2011 at the Shaunavon Hospital & Care Centre in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan. Richard was born on April 19, 1950 at the Shaunavon Union Hospital and lived all his life on the family farm north of Instow, Saskatchewan. He began his schooling at the one-room school in Instow, and when the school closed he continued his education in Shaunavon. After leaving school, he took up mixed farming with his father and brothers. Richard loved animals of all kinds. He helped with the cattle, hogs and chickens and had a special place in his heart for the dogs and cats. Richard had a sharp mind for details. He was a sport and television historian. He could provide trivia and scores for any sport and relay any information about television episodes from past or present, especially westerns, sitcoms and old movies. He was a very gentle and patient man and proved to be an invaluable help to his aging father and mother until their passing. Richard was predeceased by his sister Betty Kjolberg in 1969, sister Shirley Kjolberg in 1978, father Gunder Kjolberg in 1984, mother Jennie Kjolberg in 1993, sister Gloria Audette in 2002, and brother-in-law Lucien Audette in 2003. He is survived by his brothers Gary (Ellen) Kjolberg of Calgary, Alberta; Alan Kjolberg of Shaunavon, Saskatchewan; Kenneth (Colleen) Kjolberg of Washburn, North Dakota; and one sister Margaret (Rueben) Pertulla of Bakersfield, California.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 22, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. from Salem Lutheran Church in Shaunavon with Pastor Eugene Mau officiating. The obituary and eulogy will be presented by Louise Sonsteby, Terry Fritz and Gail Audette-Sand. Special music will be provided by Richard’s nieces Louise Sonsteby, Terry Fritz, Gail Audette-Sand, Jackie Steele and Mary Krizan. Readings are by Erick Kjolberg and Roberta Kjolberg. Honorary Pallbearers are Scott White, Robert Peskleway, David Krause, Reg Fritz, Henry Sand and Rick Sonsteby.
