William ‘Billy’ Goudy Welch 82, of Westport, passed away Sunday, Aug. 7, 2011, at home. Born in Boston, he was a son of the late Lawrence ‘Huddy’ and Gertrude ‘Ma’ (Thompson) Welch. Billy was a lifelong fisherman and just loved fishing since he was a young boy. He was a devoted Christian and deacon of Westport Baptist Church and a past member of the Westport Fire Department. Billy loved children and was known as ‘Uncle Billy’ to all the young people in the community. He loved his camp, and enjoyed his times there with his beloved dog ‘Skipper’. He is survived by his wife, the former Carol Morehouse; daughters, Heather Delsey (Chris Pasley), Kemptville, Ont.; Joy (Vincent) Stuart, Meteghan; Sandra (Yves) Couture, Blainville, Que.; Verna Tatton, Meteghan; son, Harold (Eileen) Tatton, Tusket; sisters, Connie Bisson and Lorraine Bezant, both of Westport; half-sister, Maxine Swift; brothers, Glen (Beth) Welch, Lawrence ‘Pete’ (Dolores) Welch and Philip (Grace) Welch, all of Westport; grandchildren, Spencer Welch; Taylor Welch and Samantha Couture; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Michael. Visitation was Aug. 9 in the Westport Baptist Vestry where funeral service was held Aug.10 with Pastor David Ingersoll officiating. Interment was in Woodside Cemetery, Westport.
