DOBSON, R. AVON - R. Avon Dobson, 84, of Moncton, passed away peacefully at the Moncton Hospital on Thursday morning, August 18, 2011. Raised in Halifax, he was the son of the late Reginald and Flora (Blake) Dobson.
Avon was a former Assistant Manager at Maritime Accessories Ltd. and was a retired Air Traffic Controller with MOT, with 30 years service. He was a member, past President and a Level 3 coach for Centennial Lawn Bowling in Moncton and was also involved in lawn bowling for the blind. Avon was a member of the Moncton Probus Club, former member of the Moncton Kennel Club, a former volunteer for the Moncton Food Bank and a volunteer at the Moncton Hi-Y Club for 15 years. He was an avid woodworker, making ships in bottles and wooden jewellery, for which he was well known and enjoyed socializing with his friends and spending quality time with his family.
Avon will be sadly missed by his beloved wife of 61 years, Holly (Mather) Dobson; loving daughter, Susan Reiter (John), Ottawa, ON; cherished grandchildren, Cathy Leisher (Lance), Shelley Reiter (Nick Cattizone), both of Ottawa; precious great grandchildren, Edan and Oliver; sister, Ann Hanson, Riverview; brother-in-law, Redver (Ted) Mather, Fredericton; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Sidney.
No visitation by personal request. Graveside Committal Service to be held at Elmwood Cemetery on Monday, August 22, 2011, 11:00 am, Rev. Harold MacDonald officiating. Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) in care of arrangements.
