Gary Phillips

PHILLIPS, GARY BRIAN - September 30, 1942 - August 21, 2011 - Gary Brian Phillips awesome husband to Olga and adoring father to Alison, passed away peacefully from complications due to a fall sustained on July 18, on Sunday, August 21, 2011 at the age of 68 years. Gary enjoyed a long and fulfilling career in the broadcasting industry where he made many life-long friends. His first job in 1960 was at CBHY in Yarmouth, NS, moving on to CJRW in Summerside, PEI, then on to CHSJ Radio and TV and CFBC Radio in Saint John, NB before moving west to become News Director at CFAC Radio in Calgary, AB and retiring in November of 2010 from CHQR Radio. “Good Time Gary”, as we affectionately called him, was the number one fan of his beloved Ali, delighting in her every accomplishment or achievement no matter how big or little. After his heart attack on August 29, 2001 more than ever he enjoyed and appreciated everyday of his semi-retirement, whether it was travelling, building model airplanes, reading, or just being the eternally optimistic Stampeders and Flames fan that he was. Being in the company of family and friends sharing some great laughs, jokes, good food and a beverage were his favourite times. Besides his loving wife Olga and daughter Alison, Gary is also survived by his son Jason; sisters Shelagh (Brian), Patty (Joe), Barb; brothers Alan (Marthe-Lise) and Doug; as well as numerous nieces and nephews all of Saint John, NB. He was predeceased by his parents Elizabeth and Everett Phillips; and baby brother Scott.
