MALONEY, MARIE - Marie Elvina Maloney passed away after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease, on Wednesday September 21, 2011 at her residence Rocmaura Nursing Home, with her family at her side. Born 1921 in Rogersville she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Angelie (Doucet) Finnigan. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband Bernard Alphonsus Maloney, brothers Malcolm, Gerard, Armand, Leandre, Leo and Jean. Marie grew up in Rogersville and resided in Belmont for over 50 years, where she was active in many community activities. Marie was a very spiritual person, dedicated to her faith and parish where she served as both Lay Reader and Eucharistic Minister. She had been an active participant in Queen of Peace Prayer group and had been a member of CWL St. Augustine’s Parish, and long-time member of St. Matthew’s Parish. Most of all Marie enjoyed spending time with her family. She was an avid reader and enjoyed a game of cards, scrabble, crossword puzzles, going to the beach and camping. She also enjoyed traveling, walking, bowling, knitting, sewing, music, gardening and baking.
She is survived by her loving children: sons, Robert (Pam) of Charlottetown, PEI, Leo (Denise) of Saint John, Ronald (Anne) of Quispamsis and Dr. Gerald (Colleen) of Saint John; daughters Theresa Hughson (Leroy) of Fredericton, Betty Ann Maloney (Gerald Kindred) of Saint John, Linda Webb (Bruce) of Saint John, Mary Lou Vienneau (Alden) of Saint John, twin daughters Maureen Gagnon (Donald) of Walkerton, ON and Cathleen Sunderman (Al) of Ham Lake, MN; 42 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by her brothers Laurent Finnigan (Janet) of Moncton and Fernard Finnigan (Ozina) of Coquitlam, BC; sisters Eva Bourque, Claudia Bourque and Therese Bourque all of Rogersville; sisters-in-law Marguerite Finnigan of Rogersville, Olive Finnigan of Richibucto, Ella Finnigan of Rogersville, Bertha Finnigan of Carleton Place, ON, Marguerite Davidson (Duncan) of Bains Corner, Mary Benoit (Clovis) of Saint John, Dorothy Swain of Ottawa and Geri Donovan (William) of Rothesay.
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) with visitations on Thursday September 22 from 7-9 p.m. and Friday September 23 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial and celebration of her life will be held from St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, Grand Bay-Westfield on Saturday September 24, 2011 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Augustine’s Cemetery.
