Lieu de décès : Point Edward, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Date de décès : 24 septembre 2011

Phyllis passed away peacefully Saturday morning, Sept. 24, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Point Edward to the late George and Nellie (Lewis) Grant, she was the last surviving member of her family.
She was predeceased by her first husband, John H. MacKenzie, her second husband, Alexander MacRae, her son, Grant MacKenzie and siblings, Gladys (Dan) MacAskel, Muriel Grant, Stan (Emma) Grant and Dorothy (Leo) Forcier.
Surviving is her daughter, Linda (Jack) D’Orsay of Coxheath and their children, Craig D’Orsay, Montreal, Que., Colleen D’Orsay, Williams Lake, B.C., and her children, Ashleen, Donald J. and Shayle, and Clayton (Amy) D’Orsay and their child, Elania. She is also survived by her grandchild, Warren MacKenzie, Edmonton, Alta., his daughter, Kendall and stepson, Lendel (Mary) MacRae, North Sydney.
Phyllis was a member of the Westmount United Church, the Church choir, Mae Camerons Gaelic Choir, and the Canadian Order of Foresters. She was a past organist at the St. Columbus Church, Leithces Creek. She worked for General Instruments, the Cove Guest Home and finished her career at Crowells Ltd. of Sydney.
Well known for her musical talents, she played piano at many ceilidhs and other functions throughout Cape Breton. If there was a special event in the community, you can be sure there would be a witty poem written to celebrate the occasion. Very much the lady, she lived by the words “Keep your words soft and sweet just in case you have to eat them”. Her door was always open and you were sure of a good conversation, a cup of tea and sweets. While married to Alexander, an extra plate was often set at the table, called “Jesus’ Chair”, as a reminder to always make room for someone in need. She died as she had lived, quietly and with dignity.
At her request, there will be no visitation. With Rev. Robert Bigger officiating, a memorial service will be held at the Westmount United Church at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28. Following will be a reception at the church and interment at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
We wish to thank staff at St. Anne’s Bay, Harbourstone; where she resided the last seven years, for their excellent care. Special thanks to Judy, Cathy, Sheri and Robbie.
Memorials may be made to the Westmount United Church or to the charity of one’s choice.
Condolences may be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca. to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca.
