Ada Marion Morstad of Shaunavon, Saskatchewan died at the Shaunavon Care Centre on Thursday, September 22, 2011. She was born at Shaunavon on December 7, 1925. Marion spent her childhood on the farm at Instow, attended school there, and graduated in Shaunavon. While working at Porter and Green Drug Store she met Irvin Morstad; they were married on November 13, 1945 at Salem Lutheran Church in Shaunavon and moved to the Morstad farm at Simmie to begin their life adventure. Her life and that of the community was enriched by her involvement in: The Stagettes, 4H, Early School, the Simmie Curling Club and Trinity Lutheran Church. Visitors were graciously welcomed in her home; and she was famous for her lefse, donuts and cinnamon buns. The bounty of her garden was always evident on the kitchen table. She put her sewing talents to good use creating clothes, costumes and quilts. Marion was a very creative, yet practical person. After farming for many years, she realized she could make good use of straw, and became well known for her wheat weaving. Pieces of her work have been presented to many visiting dignitaries. When this was no longer a challenge she turned to spinning and weaving with wool and other fibers, and again created many beautiful items for family and friends. After retirement, Marion and Irvin moved to her favorite house in Shaunavon where the coffee was always on and the crib board at the ready. Square dancing, gardening and camping kept them busy. After Irvin’s death she continued to enjoy travelling and seeking new adventures. Her coffee group, other friends, crossword puzzles and reading were her continued interests. When her independence lessened due to Parkinson’s disease she enjoyed her home at Avondale and the friendships and the care provided. She was predeceased by her husband Irvin, July 1993, son-in-law Don Sakundiak, May 1988, her youngest daughter Carla Magnuson, February 2010, her parents Martin and Johanne Hansen, brothers Irving (Ella Mae), Swift Current, Clarence (Hattie), Shaunavon, Stan, Yellow Grass, Alvin (Ina), Kimberley, BC, and sisters Eleanor (in childhood) and Merle (Art Bowen), Burnaby, BC.
