Lieu de décès : Westmount, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Date de décès : 21 octobre 2009
It is with the heaviest of hearts and the utmost of love, that I, Lisa (daughter), and my mom Elizabeth (wife) announce the passing of my Dad, our best friend, hero and rock, Danny Mick Cameron on Oct. 21, 2009, at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Sydney, June 8, 1948, he was the son of the late John Metzler Cameron and Catherine (Ann) MacNeil Cameron.
Dan was also predeceased by his brother, John Metzler Cameron.
He was a member of Holy Rosary parish.
In 1966 at the age of 18 years, he began his bricklaying career. He was an active member of the Labourers Union, Local 115, and served on the executive for over 20 years. His many projects include Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Cape Breton University and the Cabot House. His last 10 working years were spent doing refactory work and shut downs.
In the 1980s he had side jobs and was well known for his time as a bouncer at the Peridot Tavern. He was also the proud owner/operator of Danny’s Den, where many a good time was had on Sunday in Balls Creek.
Dan was a member of Westside Legion Branch 126 for over 30 years. Many a Friday (the day with no night) or Saturday he could be found sitting at the round table with his buddies having two swill, listening to some country classics (Hank Williams Sr. being one of his favourites), reminiscing and reciting poetry. He will be sadly missed by all who had the privilege of spending time with him. One of Danny’s greatest attributes was his amazing memory of poetry. He was a brilliant poet and entertainer. Friends and family could listen to him recite for hours on end.
A modest man, Dan blessed everyone he met with his big smile, curious nature and impeccable manners — a true gentleman through and through. His keen intellect and piercing wit balanced by a sense of fairness resulted in a wonderful and charming man. The best of men, the greatest of fathers and he left nothing to be desired as a poppy.
Dad, I admire the way you lived; such spirit and conviction. You inspired me, you made me think, you made me laugh, you made me so proud that you were the father in my life, I couldn’t have asked for more. You were amazing.
Dan’s legacy will live on through his surviving family, his loving wife, Elizabeth (Perfect); daughter, Lisa; granddaughter, Brooke (his little sweetie and the apple of his eye); and grandson, Cameron (his namesake and his little pac-man). His love for his grandchildren goes so deep that no words have the magic to describe it.
Dan is also survived by his beautiful sisters, Catherine Mader, Mary (Jim) Bryden, Pat (Kirby) Stapleton; sisters-in-law, Donna (imo John) Cameron, Rose (Leo) Poirier, Theresa (imo Danny) Perfect, (imo Joyce and Billy MacLellan); brothers-in-law, John Joe Perfect, Gerard Perfect, Timmy (Sandra) Perfect and their families.
Also left to grieve are life-long and special friends, son-in-law, Randy Osmond, Jed and Valerie Ball, Dick Jardine, Stella Ball, Beverly and Andy Foggoa, Allisdair Patterson, Ray Deleskie, Ray Kawecki, Georgie Lewis, Mary Anne and Gary Morrison, Alec Conn, Freddie Buckles, Sharon G., and all others whom I may not have mentioned but are just as important.
Another special mention goes to Dan’s wonderful neighbours for all your love, support and acts of kindness, Josephine, Brent, Rose, Amanda and Shea MacLeod, Jim, Sharon, Chauncy and Evan MacLeod, Reggie MacIsaac and family, Dougie Carver and Rosemary Steeves.
Cremation has taken place. Funeral service 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24 at Holy Rosary Church with Fr. Murphy officiating. Burial to follow at Holy Rosemary Cemetery. A gathering of friends of Danny will be held at Westside Legion at 12:30 p.m.
