Date de naissance : 8 mars 1954

Lieu de décès : Plymouth, Massachusetts, États-Unis
Date de décès : 14 octobre 2011

Judith Basler Fortes, of Plymouth, Mass., passed away Oct. 14, 2011. She was born March 8, 1954, the youngest of seven children to Albert and Kay Basler.
Judy left us much too soon following a six-month battle with lung cancer. She faced the challenge with resolve, complete awareness and courage — much as she lived her life. She always stayed true to herself, who she was and who she wanted to be.
Judy was raised in Jamaica Plain and attended St. Thomas Aquinas Schools where she was a flutist in the award-winning CYO marching band. Of the many jobs she held over the course of her life, none was more important than her job as mother to her beloved sons, Ian, Cameron and Kyle. They adored her; she adored them. She passed on to them her love of all things Bob Dylan as well as the Grateful Dead and the Beatles. She loved her three cats Bob, Cali and Fiki. Any game that stimulated her brain was a must for Judy — from crosswords to Jeopardy to Words with Friends. Her home was her sanctuary where she cooked and tended her plants. In the end, she loved simply to sit and talk with her sons.
The family would like to thank Dr. Irina Gurevich and her colleagues at the Jordan Hospital Club Cancer Center for their compassionate care of Judy throughout her illness. They also thank the staff at Radius Health Care Center for their excellent care during Judy’s two stays with them.
She was predeceased by her father, Albert M. Basler and her stepfather, Michael D. MacDonald.
She is survived by her three sons, Ian Fortes and his wife, Nicole; Cameron Fortes and his girlfriend, Jessica Salmon and Kyle Fortes. She is also survived by her mother, Kay MacDonald of New Waterford, N.S.; and her siblings, Nancy (Anne) and David Neville, Salem, Mass., Bert and Chris Basler, Brockton, Mass., Donald Basler, Dover, N.H., Meg (Mary) Baxter, Cape Elizabeth, Maine, Barbara Basler and Barry O’Brien of Jacksonville, Fla., and Frank and Carolyn Basler, East Taunton, Mass.; 10 nieces and nephews. In addition, she is survived by her Cape Breton, N.S. family, stepsisters, Jeanette and A.J. Beaton of Troy, Annie Mae and Duncan Gillis of Creignish, Carol Anne and Gerard Graham of Craigmore; stepbrothers, Dan and Beverly MacDonald of New Waterford Joe and Sandra MacDonald of Troy, nine nieces and nephews.
A wake will be held Thursday, Oct. 20 from 4-6:30 p.m. followed by a brief service at Cartmell Funeral Services, 150 Court St., Plymouth, Mass., 02360.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in Judy’s memory to the Jordan Hospital Club Cancer Center, 275 Sandwich St., Plymouth, Mass., 02360, or the Radius Sunshine Fund, 124 South St., Plymouth, Mass., 02360.
