Date de décès : 9 octobre 2011

Paul Koop, age 96, of the Herbert Heritage Manor and formerly of Blumenort, SK, passed away at the Regina General Hospital on Sunday, October 9, 2011. Paul was predeceased by his wife, Helen; his son, Raymond Koop; his parents, Paul Sr. & Katrina Koop; his sisters, Justina and Martha Koop; and by his half-sisters, Tina and Helen Voth. He leaves to lovingly remember him, his daughter, Janice & Lloyd Clothier; his grandson, Byron & fiancé, Katherine Palatino; his granddaughter, Carmen; his great-grandson, Jesse John; and by extended family and friends. Paul was born on July 15, 1915, in Steinfeld, South Ukraine. He immigrated to Canada at the age of nine, with his parents. They settled in the community of Kelstern, SK where his father was a minister at the Kelstern MB Church. After grandfather’s retirement, the family moved to Blumenhof, SK. Dad married Helen Friesen on February 20, 1947, and they lived on the farm south of Neville, SK. In 1952, we moved to the village of Blumenort. My mother’s death in 1992, was heartbreaking for dad, but true to his reserved and stoic nature, he continued farming until 2004, when he moved to Swift Current. When his health deteriorated, dad moved to the Herbert Heritage Manor, where he resided until his passing. My mother would coax dad into taking holidays and we have happy memories of our trips to Expo ‘86 in Vancouver and the trip to California in 1988. Dad and Raymond spent much time together and Raymond’s sudden passing was another difficult time for dad. After the loss of his short term memory, we spent hours looking at photo albums that took us back to happy times and days gone by. My dad’s passing brings to an end a generation in our family. We have been left an incredible legacy by some remarkable people. We have truly been blest. So, we will remember dad when we gaze at a field of wheat or when we watch a cow looking after her calf…and we will be grateful for his life and all he meant to us. To you, his family and friends, we say ‘Thank you’ for visiting dad, the home baking and all you did for him. He may not have remembered to tell me about your visit, but I know he appreciated you being there. We want to ‘thank’ Dr. Kassett and the staff at the Herbert Health Facility for the exceptional care they gave my father. Also, our heartfelt appreciation goes to the staff at the Herbert Heritage Manor for creating a home environment for dad, one where he felt safe and was well cared for. The Funeral Service was held on Friday, October 14, 2011 at 11:00 am from the Bridgeway Community Church, Swift Current, SK with Rev. Martin Harder officiating. The pianist for the service was Sylvia Martens. “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee” and “The Lord’s My Shepherd” were sung by the congregation under the direction of Don Friesen. The life history was shared by Janice Clothier. The usher in the church was Les Fehr. The Interment Service was held at t he Blumenhof Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Abe Ens, Gary Noble, Lloyd Clothier, Byron Clothier, James Fehr and Barry Hildebrandt. In memory of Paul Koop, donations made to the Herbert Heritage Manor would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements were in care of Swift Current Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK.
