It is with broken hearts that we announce that another angel slipped into heaven on Wednesday November 9, 2011 at home surrounded by her loving family. Joan was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend, she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late William and Lucy (Almon) Smith.
Left to mourn her loss is daughter, Connie (Greg) Matthews, Westmount, with whom she resided; sons, Lloyd Perry, Westmount, Darron (Melissa) Perry, Greenwood; her six precious grandchildren, Tyler, Madison, Crystal-Dawn (Michael), Carey-Lynn, Matthew, Brooke; her great-grandchild, Kaylee-Rayne and close friends Josephine MacLeod and Vera Bonnell.
She is also survived by her sister, Cheryl (Patrick) MacDonald, Glace Bay; brother, Jerry (Kay) Smith, Toronto; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Joan was predeceased by her husband, Robert Perry; sister, Genesta Simms, Constance Smith; brothers, Joey Smith and Earl Smith.
Joan spent most of her working days with Woolco and Walmart, Sydney River, when she retired she devoted all her time to her family and close friends. She was a selfless person with a heart of gold, who truly and genuinely cared for others, her strength was an inspiration to all who knew her.
Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass will be held 9:30 a.m. Monday November 14, 2011 at Holy Rosary Church, Westmount with Douglas Murphy officiating.
Interment to follow. Reception to take place at the Church Glebe house.
