It is with deep regret that we the family announce the passing of Wayne Aitkens on Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with his family by his side.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of Mrs. Sadie (Englehutt) Aitkens, Westmount, and the late Melvill Aitkens.
Wayne was employed with the Sydney Steel for 36 years until his retirement. He was a member of First United Church, Westmount. He was a man of many wonderful qualities, he loved spending time in the country, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and berry picking on his family property in Wreck Cove.
Wayne enjoyed all sports, darts, bowling and playing cards (tarabish). He lived life to the fullest and will be missed by all who knew him.
Besides his mother, Sadie, Wayne is survived by his wife, Florence (Jewer) Aitkens; two sons, Michael (Darlene) and Curtis; brother, Roger (June) Aitkens, Cambridge, Ont.; two special grandchildren, Kristen and Aiden.
Visitation will be held Monday, Nov. 16 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra Street, Sydney, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17 at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Tom Whent officiating. Burial to follow in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
