Ann Gertrude Hilland Clarke

Clarke, Ann Gertrude Hilland – 66, Truro, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2011, in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro, surrounded by her family and close friends. Born in Montreal on August 9, 1945, she was adopted at a young age by her aunt and uncle, Gertrude Edna Wright and Laurie Muir Wright.
Ann began school in Riversdale and graduated from Central Colchester High School in Onslow. She later attended the Aberdeen School of Nursing in New Glasgow, graduating as a registered nurse in 1967. Her nursing career began in York County Hospital, Newmarket, Ont. She left York County Hospital as a charge nurse and moved back to Nova Scotia in 1975. Here she spent the rest of her career at Colchester Regional Hospital, retiring in 2001. Following her official retirement, she spent a number of years as a private-duty nurse, ending with over 40 years of patient care. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, and Beta Sigma Phi since 1969, serving in all offices.
Surviving are her husband of 42 years, Curtis; son, Christopher, Truro; sisters, Grace Curtis Bethel, Truro; Margaret Harcus, Edmonton, Alta., and Alexa (Dr. Andrew MacKay), Halifax. She was predeceased at the age of 18 months by her birth mother, Ann Mary MacLean; brother, Dr. James R. (Jean) Wright; sister, Phyllis (Lawrence) MacKay; brothers-in-law, Jack Harcus; Merle Curtis, Harold Bethel.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, and funeral service will be 1 p.m. on Wednesday, both in The People’s Church, Truro, Pastor Ken Fillmore officiating. Burial will be held in MacLean Cemetery, Riversdale. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Colchester Regional Hospital Foundation – Building Fund.
Arrangements are under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Colchester Regional Hospital for the excellent care and compassion Ann received during her eight-month stay. A special recognition to Dr. Slipp and the nursing staff on the 4th floor.
