Bertie"Bert" Wayne Stonehouse, age 70, of Sydney, NS passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Tuesday, December 6, 2011
Born in Masstown, NS, he was a son of the late Layton and Lila (Stevens) Stonehouse.
Bert was employed with Steadmans, then Alteen's Jewelers, then operated his own convenience store known as Westmount Dairy until his retirement in 1996. An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting and fishing. He made Serpentine Jewelry and sold it online for many years. A great family man, he loved his children and grandchildren. A great passion of his was playing guitar, and he always kept one close by.
He will be dearly missed by his wife of 50 years, the former Mary Holden; children Peggy, at home, Tracy (Mike), Sydney River, NS, Larry (Diane), Frenchvale, NS, Mark (Jen), Westmount, NS; 14 grandchildren; sister Sally (Ron) Levy, Parrsboro.
He was predeceased by a daughter Dale in 2008 and a brother Frederick.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the W Allen Funeral Home, 60 Water St., Oxford, NS where visiting hours were held on Friday from 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service took place at the funeral home on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 11 am, burial in Millvale Cemetery.
