Seward Russell Gouthro, a lifelong resident of Glace Bay, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012, with family present, in his 101 year.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Seward and Anne (Chaisson) Gouthro.
Dad was a member of St. Anthony’s parish and a life member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1953.
Dad as a young man had a small trucking business, he then joined the staff of Bay Motors as a salesman and later sales manager. He later joined the provincial government as the first motor vehicle inspector, retiring in 1977.
He was predeceased by his wife of 70 years, Sally MacNeil, son, Jack and his wife, Anne, daughter, Audrey, brothers, Arthur and Wilfred, sister, Marguerite Jackson.
Dad is survived by son, Hec (Bina), Dominion; daughters, Betty (Crawford) Tracey, Claire (Laird) Wilton, Glace Bay; sister, Marie Hughes, Ottawa; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be today (Friday), Feb. 10 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. The Knight’s of Columbus will have a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 11 a.m. in St. Anthony’s Church with Rev. Norman MacPhee officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
