Malcolm is with God in heaven because he claimed this promise of salvation and eternal life made by his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Malcolm passed away surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, March 1, 2012 quietly in his sleep at The Hospice at May Court, Ottawa, Ont.
Born on Aug. 6, 1926, he was the second son of the late Major Archibald and Marguerite (MacLeod) Caldwell of Sydney Mines, N.S. Malcolm was a graduate of Sydney Mines High School and earned his B.A. at Gordon College and his Master of Divinity at Gordon-Conwell Seminary in Wenham, MA. In 1990 he was conferred with an honorary doctorate from Gordon-Conwell.
Malcolm worked as an accountant for Dominion Steel & Coal Corporation in Sydney, N.S. for 17 years. He felt God’s calling to full time ministry and was ordained in 1968 as a minister in the Presbyterian Church in Canada. During his 23 years of service to the Lord he ministered in Newcastle, Derby & Millerton; padre at St. Margaret’s AFB, N.B.; Gloucester & Vernon, Ont.; Woodstock & Kirkland, N.B. and Bethel Church in Sydney, N.S.
Malcolm is survived by his best friend, ministry partner and loving wife of 58 years, Lois (MacQueen) Caldwell; son, Donald, his children, Adam (Blair) and Karna (Kevin Flessner) (and their mother Susan Belyea); daughter, Mary, her husband Calvin Ferguson and their children, Rebecca (Thomas Geniole) and Joshua (Sandra); son, Malcolm, his wife Janice and their sons, Peter, Christopher & Matthew; great-granddaughters, Darby, Harper, Bronwyn; great-grandsons, Jake, Wheaton and Drew. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Jean Caldwell, Joan Caldwell, Beth Scott and brother-in-law, Norman (Mary) MacQueen. Malcolm was predeceased by his brothers, Lloyd, James, George (June) and Quincy and a sister, Georgia in infancy.
Visitation for Malcolm Caldwell will be held at the Kelly Funeral Home (Barrhaven Chapel), 3000 Woodroffe Ave., Ottawa, Ont. (613-823-4747) on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.. The funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, 971 Woodroffe Ave., Ottawa, Ont. on Monday, March 5, 2012 at 11 a.m. Reception to follow in the church fellowship hall. Interment will then follow at Capital Memorial Gardens.
Donations in Malcolm’s memory may be made to The Gideons, The Hospice at May Court or St Paul’s Presbyterian Church.
