Smith: Herman Burnley “Bub”, 75, Vimy Court Truro and formerly of Brookfield & originally from Jordan Falls, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2012 in the Colchester Regional Hospital Truro. Born in Jordan Falls, Shelburne County, July 24, 1936, he was a son of the late Herman W. and Freda (Wamback) Smith, of Jordan Falls. Herman left the small community and joined the Canadian Air Force. He was in the Canadian Guards and later into the Service Corp. He met and married his wife Barbara in Shilo, Manitoba. From that point the military had the family posted in different areas over his 25 years of service. Retirement brought the family to Brookfield in 1981. Herman finding employment as a mechanic and eventually as a commissionaire. Herman “Bub” continued to do mechanical work at home eventually leaving the grease to become involved in carpentry of which he made many pieces of furniture for the family. Herman “Bub” had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to tease his grandchildren whom he loved dearly. Leaving behind his wife of 55 years Barbara; daughters, Barbie (Everett) Gero, Brookfield; Colleen (Mark) Tomecki, Australia; sister, Joyce Nickerson, Jordan Falls; brothers, David (Wendy), Coburg, ON; Stillman (Elaine), Jordan Falls; grandchildren, Shawn (Nellie), Joshua, Hazen, Devin, Justin, Kyle; granddaughter, Jaquinn; great grandson, Sammy. He was predeceased by his son, Quinn in 1992; sisters, Shirley at birth, Lou and Beverly.Visitation will be held 1-2pm prior to funeral service 2pm Friday, March 9, all in the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro, Rev. Larry Harrison officiating with a reception to follow. Interment to be held at a later date in the Brookfield Westside Cemetery, in Brookfield. Family flowers only.
