Leslie George Despins of Prince Albert, SK passed away suddenly on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at the age of 78 years. At the time of his passing Les was visiting family in Regina. Les was born on July 1st 1933 in Marcelin, SK. He later moved to Prince Albert with his family where he met the love of his life Dorothy “Dot” Olson. They married in November of 1951 and remained married for 57 years until Dots’ passing in 2009. Les worked hard all his life. He first started working for Thompson Newspapers in Prince Albert. He also continued this work in the communities of Saskatoon and Moose Jaw. He dedicated 28 years to the newspaper business and successfully finished as Composing Room Manager. Following this, he had a second successful career working with the Provincial Government. He worked diligently for 17 years in the area of Property Management. After his official retirement in 1992, he would enjoy renovation work in the community of Waskesiu. He particularly enjoyed working with his three good friends, Ken Cottrell, Mark Robinson and Arnie Goodwin. This was a testimony to his hard work ethic and his enjoyment of making a difference in the lives of others. He was always willing to help others at their cabin in whatever way he could. Les loved being with his family at Waskesiu. Over the years, Les and Dots cabin was the centre of all social functions. July 1st weekend was always a celebration of Les’s birthday. Les was an avid curler. Not only was he a predominant curler in Saskatchewan, he gave countless hours coaching and helping younger players including all family and friends. Les was also dedicated to the game of golf. He was a long-standing member the Waskesiu Golf Club. In recognition of his work, he was presented with a prestigious “Life Time Membership Award.” Les was also a long time member of California Fitness in Prince Albert. Through his involvement with this club, he made many good friends. With his passing, he leaves to mourn his children Judy Boyer (Danny), Don (Janice), Wayne (Deb), Dale (Anita) and Glen (Wendy); twin brother Chick (Missy); brother-in-law Allan Olson. Along with them, there are his grandchildren Paul, Michael, Mark, Todd, Tyler, Robyn, David, Donna, Alyssa, Amy, Adam and Eric; as well as his great-grandchildren and his endless list of family and friends. A celebration of Les’s life will be held at River Park Memorial Chapel on Wednesday April 25th at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Dan Haugen will officiate. Interment of cremated remains will take place in the Garden of Christus, Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. It is the family’s request that memorial donations be made to the Prince Albert SPCA.
