SUTHERLAND, Wilbert Earle “Will” – Truro. It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Will (Wilbert Earle) Sutherland on Sunday, April 22, 2012 in The Villages, Florida, USA at the age of 66. Will was born in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, where he attended elementary school before moving to Sydney, Nova Scotia, where he graduated from Sydney Academy High School. Continuing his education at Dalhousie University, Will graduated with his B. Com. and achieved his Chartered Accountant designation in 1969. He began his career with the accounting firm Peat, Marwick, Mitchell before accepting a position as the CFO for the House of Hay Ltd. in Truro, Nova Scotia. After working a fulfilling career, Will took early retirement and enjoyed the freedom it gave him. Hockey and golf were two of his favorite pastimes. With over a 60-year association with hockey, he played at a varsity level for Sydney Academy and the Dalhousie Tigers, and “retired” with the Truro Bearcat Old-Timers. He was very active in many volunteer roles that included over 20 years of coaching minor hockey, a director of Truro Junior A Bearcats, and recently the Canada Winter Games at Ski Wentworth. He was a member of the Truro Golf Club for many years and enjoyed daily games with his buddies. Will’s real passion was his family. He was predeceased by his parents, Earle David Sutherland and Lois Ann (nee Ingram, Sutherland) Halliday and baby sister, Erdine. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Jody (Josephine Long); beloved sons, Jeff, wife Julie (Hinkley), granddaughters Emma, Charlotte and Heather; and Greg, wife Kathy (MacIsaac), grandson Emmett and grand-dog Boo. Also survived by his sister, Katherine Schaefer (Paul); brother, Rev. David (Irma); sister-in-law, Marge Fisher (Dirk Kamink); brother-in-law, Perce Long (Dorothy); step-brother, Fraser Halliday (Ethel); as well as eleven nieces and nephews and nine grand-nieces and nephews. A celebration of Will’s life will be held at a later date in Truro, Nova Scotia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia and the Ignite the Spirit Campaign (In support of the Central NS Civic Centre). Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Private messages of condolences may be sent to the family by visiting the “Guest Book” at: www.mattatallvarnerfh.com
