Francis (Frank) Joseph Murphy

Date de décès : 4 avril 2012

Peacefully at the Salvation Army Glenbrook Lodge on 4 April 2012 after a long illness, at the age of 84. Predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Louise Ryan (May 28, 2011). Frank is survived by his children David (John Cole) Bristol, UK; Janet (Bill Goodridge) Corner Brook, NL; and Christine (Bruce Davies), Sarnia, Ont. Frank was a much-loved grandfather to James, Sarah, Christopher and William Goodridge, Andrew and Ryan Davies, and Maya and Joe Tune (Devon, UK). Frank also leaves his twin sister, Florence Connors (late Bill), sister Catherine Murphy and his brother John Murphy (Jean). He was predeceased by his parents Bridget Dobbin and Francis D. Murphy and his sister Marion Noftall (late Edward).
Frank attended St. Patrick’s Hall School and St. Bonaventure’s College in St. John’s. He then had a long, successful career in management with Pepsi Cola Canada and franchises across Canada. Subsequently Frank held various managerial positions with Western Canada Lotteries and the Alberta Lotteries Corporation up to his retirement in Calgary in 1992. Frank and Louise then returned home to Newfoundland the following year. Back in St John’s, they enjoyed reconnecting with old friends and family and led a full and active retirement.
Frank will be remembered for his outgoing personality, his love for and loyalty to his family and friends and his outstanding athletic accomplishments in a wide range of sports. Most notably, he was a star hockey player and a key member of St. Bon’s Bluegolds Herder Trophy championship teams of the late 1940s. Frank also played hockey in Gander with his brother John in the 1950s, and was a member of the Corner Brook Royals Herder champions in 1962. Frank continued to show his talent and leadership on the hockey rink and his love for the game for the next 50 plus years, playing his last old-timer games in St. John’s in his early seventies.
Frank and Louise lived in many communities across Canada and travelled widely. Friends and family in Canada, the United States and overseas will remember him fondly. Sincere thanks to the staff of Glenbrook Lodge for their compassionate care and dedication to Frank’s needs during the past two years. Visitation will take place at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road Monday, 30 April 2012 from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at The Basilica of St. John the Baptist on Tuesday 1 May at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to the Salvation Army Glenbrook Lodge, 105 Torbay Road, St. John’s, NL, A1A 2G9 or The Gathering Place 172 Military Road, P.O.
