Eric Surette

SURETTE, ERIC VICTOR - It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Eric Victor Surette on Saturday, April 28th. 2012 after a 2 ½ year battle of cancer. Eric is survived by the love of his life, his fiancée Nancy Gibbs of New Maryland and her children Stacey Clarke (Rich) of Calgary, AB and Erin Gibbs (Kevin Chapman) of Fredericton. He leaves to mourn his sisters Carmel Davies, Seattle, WA, USA, Janice Fougere (Paul) Shediac and his brother Ronald (Lorraine) Aldouane, NB, his niece Susan (Claude) Shediac, NB, nephew Dany, Aldouane, NB and Gary (Anne), Sydney, NS. He was predeceased by his father Frank, his mother Yvonne and infant sister Dianne. In 1967 after graduating from Moncton Tech, Eric began his working career as a well respected colleague at Neill and Gunter where he remained until his retirement. Eric was a member of the Fredericton Golf and Curling Club where he spent every waking moment during golf season each year. It was on the golf course that Eric made many lifelong friends who will miss him greatly. Special thanks to his golfing buddies Larry Simpson, Bevin Gallagher, Jamie Liston, Greg Blake, Jack Cunningham and Steve Yerxa for making his last year so memorable on the course. Eric’s love of curling saw him on the NB Senior Men’s Curling team in 1998 where he represented NB at the Nationals. He will be missed by all who curled with him. Mike Williams (Marilyn) held a special place in Eric’s life that cannot be matched. He along with many others will miss him dearly. Our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. A. McLellan, Dr. S. Raza, Dr. K. Broad, Dr. D. Varty and Dr. Assi (Moncton) for their outstanding, compassionate care of Eric throughout his courageous battle with cancer. A special thank you to the nurses in palliative care as well as Jane Jones and her team at Extra Mural who provided Eric’s family with the much needed guidance and support throughout his battle. To Dr. Debbie Gowan, the family cannot express how grateful we are for your never ending commitment to Eric’s care. Always showing the utmost dignity, respect and genuine sense of care and concern for Eric and his family in his final stages of life. Eric was truly blessed to have you on his team. The family would like to express thanks to everyone who kept Eric in their prayers, showed their kindness with phone calls, food, visits, cards and thoughtful words. Eric was most loved for his sense of humor, quick wit, gentle ways, his generosity, love of nature, peaceful demeanor as well as his deep thinking and at times stubborn nature. His love of fast cars was indicative of his drive for life, he never stopped and never looked back. Eric’s willingness to give back was evident to the last minute as he choose to be an organ donor in hopes of bringing light to someone’s life as many did for him until the end.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Eric’s Life will take place in the near future. Memorial donations may be made to the SPCA, CNIB, Red Cross or a donation of the donor’s choice. On - line condolences may be made at www.mcadamsfh.com.
