GALLOP, GERALD ALLISON - 1921-2012 - Gerald Allison Gallop, born in Birch Ridge, NB December 7, 1921, youngest of a family of ten to Henry Allison And Emily Barnes Gallop, passed away at the Dr Everett Chalmers Hospital after a brief illness on April 28, 2012 at the age of 90 years. He was predeceased by his siblings Edna, Ivy, Harold, Fred, Herb, Maudi, Deb, Lawrence and George; and by son Douglas. Gerald married Jean Allison Zwicker, daughter of Otto and Arlene Zwicker on August 4, 1943. Gerald and Jean were blessed with two sons and two daughters; G. Allison (Esther), Douglas (Suzanne), Barbara (Randy) and Joyce (Fred), nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Jean, having passed away in July 1986, Gerald married Lorna Sisson on June 1990 and moved to Fredericton and subsequently Arthurette. On 9 November 2010 Gerald moved to the Veterans Health Unit in Fredericton where he enjoyed his surroundings and counted many of the staff as friends. Gerald was employed by United Farmers Co-Op, Andover, 1939 – 1942, served in the Canadian Army 1942 – 1946 and returned to the store in 1946 where he eventually became manager. He, Jean and two young sons moved to Woodstock in 1948 where he was employed by G.E. Barbour Co. Ltd 1948 - 1986, in sales for eight years, Branch Manager 21 years and General Manager nine years. Dad was a community-minded man. He served as Deputy Mayor and Mayor, Town of Woodstock 1963 – 1969, Chairman Board of Trustees of Carleton Memorial Hospital, Chairman Woodstock Rotary Club, Chairman Woodstock Old Home Week Commission and St. Luke’s Anglican Church Senior Warden for three Rectors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, snowmobiling and ATVing. Woodstock is where his roots were. He loved his family and community, and enjoyed many lasting friendships.
Visitation from The Culberson Funeral Home 188 Connell Street, Woodstock, NB on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services to be held on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. from St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Woodstock, NB with Rev. Shirley Noseworthy officiating assisted by The Ven. Walter Williams. Interment to follow at the Woodstock Rural Cemetery, Woodstock, NB. If so desired, donations to the N. B. Heart and Stroke Foundation, St. Luke’s Anglican, Carleton York Ground Search & Rescue would be appreciated by the family.
