RYER, Dale, RSW, MSW candidate, MSQ, 59, Jordan Falls, died Sunday, April 29, 2012 after a short illness. Born in Shelburne, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Rhoda (Nonie) Whynot-Ryer and Roger Ryer. Dale worked for the first half of her career at various companies as an administrative assistant. She went back to school in her late 30’s and achieved her Bachelor of Social Work at Ryerson. In addition she completed all course work for her Masters in Social Work at Dalhousie. She worked for the remainder of her career as a social worker for several institutions in Bridgewater, Barrington, Yarmouth and Shelburne. One of the last positions she held during this part of her career was as Director of Our House Youth and Wellness Center in Shelburne. We are comforted knowing that she made a positive difference in many people’s lives. Surviving are her loving partner of 18 years, Donald Bird, Jordan Falls; daughter, Erin (Sinden) Gorsline (Michael), and granddaughter Hanna, Portland, Oregon; sisters, Kaye Menard, Ottawa; Rhoda Tingley (Peter), Enfield; Beverly Huddleston (David), Jordan Ferry; Phyllis Fitzgerald (John), St. John’s Nfld; Cheryl Lamoureux (Ralph), Ottawa; John Roger Ryer (Mona), Nictaux, NS, and many nieces and nephews across the country. She was predeceased by her parents, her step-father, Elden Whynot, her brother John Roger (Buddy) Ryer and sister Ann Ruggles. The family would like to thank the staff at the Roseway Hospital Emergency Depart., Yarmouth Hospital ICU and VG MSICU for the wonderful care they gave to Dale in her final weeks. Cremation has taken place under the direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Shelburne. A celebration of her life was held on Thursday, May 3 at the Trinity United Church in Shelburne with Rev. Joanne McFadden officiating. A reception will be held afterward at the church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of choice benefiting women and/or children.
