SMITH, BETTY LOU - It is with the deepest sadness we announce the sudden passing of Betty Lou Smith of Moncton NB, formerly of Paradise NS. Born November 14, 1936, in Waasis New Brunswick, Betty was a devoted wife to Graham for fifty-seven years, living in a number of locations including Harmony before moving to her beloved Paradise and later Rumsey Lake. She was an amazing mother to her four children Heather Hemming, Port Williams NS, Deborah Smith, Moncton NB, Derrick Smith, French Lake NB, Scott Smith, Gatineau QC, and nine grandchildren Matthew, Deborah, William, Alexander, Sonya, Blake, Blaise, Joshua and Maya and great grand-daughter Lilia. She is further survived by her two sisters, Doreen Clark and Aldana Huxtable, her special niece Pam Noble, and many other extended family members. Betty co-owned and operated the Paradise General Store and subsequently the Paradise Antique Store. She was an active community member in Paradise where she served in many capacities including Superintendent of the United Baptist Sunday School and member of the Paradise Priscillas. She was a long-time member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Betty always had a passion for life. She was a delightful, animated woman whose optimism will always inspire her family and friends. Betty had a flare for fashion and loved to travel including recent trips to Ireland, England and France. She was an avid gardener and adored the simple pleasures of life, especially her flowers and the wonders of nature. A highlight every year was the time she spent at Gulfview Mobile Home Park in Florida where she had many close friends and will be sorely missed. Betty brought so much joy to the lives of all who knew her.
Visitation will be head at Middleton Funeral home on Thursday, May the 3rd from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, May the 4th at Paradise United Baptist Church. Reverend Mark Reece and Reverend Quincy Collins will co-officiate. Reception to follow. Private interment.
